Lee Johnson and I starting playing guitars together then added Mike Thompson and Larry Caffo to the group. Mike had the best voice; Larry could play anything he heard. We could never decide on a name, so we called ourselves the Uncalled Four. We had a lot of fun and music changed my direction in life.

I went the Napa Jr. College for a year then transferred to BYU where I studied music. I met and married Caralee while at BYU. After the music degree, I got a MLS and planned to be a music librarian at some university. That didn't work out so I took a “temporary” job at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City and stayed there for 37 years. It is now FamilySearch.org.

I came back to Napa each year to visit my folks until my dad retired in 1980. They moved to St. George, Utah so my only visit to Napa since then was in 2000. A lot has changed, but it was very nice to see things again.

I took auto shop in summer school one year and brought in the family car for an oil change. It was on the rack, the oil was drained, but I couldn't get the filter to come off. Mr. Vincent came over with a filter wrench to give the it a good turn and got a filter full of oil in the face for his efforts. Ouch.

I ran high hurdles on the Ridgeview track team because I was tall enough to clear them, but was out of my league when I got to High School. I tried the cross country team my junior year and that cured me from running ever again. No interest in even jogging after that.
